MISC pulls out of Grand Alliance

MISC Berhad has notified its Grand Alliance partners of its intention to withdraw from the group, effective Jan 1st, 2010.

MISC will withdraw from services between the Far East and Europe & the Mediterranean.

The carrier does not operate with the Grand Alliance on the Transpacific or Transatlantic trades.

This effectively means that MISC will become an Intra-Asia operator.

The Grand Alliance says that MISC's withdrawal will not affect sailing frequencies, transit times or service structures.

The Grand Alliance fleet comprises about 140 vessels with capacities of between 2,900 and 9,000 TEU, seven of which are provided by MISC.

The remaining alliance partners, Hapag-Lloyd, OOCL and NYK, will replace these ships in the context of the alliance's normal cascading.
